Flow of inspiration

Let’s talk about the sacredness of water.
2

Living next to the sea was the best choice I ever made for myself and my family. For heath , sanity and spiritual practices. She keeps me connected to the ebb and flow of her natural rhythms, which is essential in these crazy times.

But the river is a different beast entirely. living in Cumbria I am blessed with so many streams of inspiration in the form of currents flowing through rivers. Each river has its own distinct personality and presence. I have used river water when creating statues of gods and goddesses, and other pieces of clay work, which imbues the spirit of these rivers into the pieces.

Two of the first statues I created birthed Aesclapius and Hygeia, who have overseen my healing altar ever since.

Last year when we brought home foraged clay from the river , I also brought water from different places. The lamps below, which are now ready for firing, were created with water that I brought from Rydal Cave in Ambleside.

There is a ritual that I performed over the years, which entails collecting of “Brighid” waters. During Imbolc celebrations , going to different places to collect water from holy wells, streams, rivers and lakes, and putting them together in a bowl that signifies the pool of our imagination or well of inspiration. Each time I visit these places, the landscape speaks to my heart as well as the water speaking to my soul.

If water holds memory , as Masuru Emoto tells us, then surely we can listen to the memories of the earth as we listen to the water flowing over rocks. Similarly, placing our hands in a bowl of water collected from a natural source, to read it.

What is it that makes a holy well , holy?

The water itself.

Sitting for a little while next to the weir is like taking a spiritual shower and with a little bit of imagination, letting the sound wash over like a waterfall, let the mind go and breathe in the moment.

This is such a beautiful practice and allows you to clear away stagnant thoughts and emotions that may be weighing heavily on you. Let new thoughts and feelings flow.

Anytime you feel stuck, and need a little bit of water energy to cleanse the soul, try sitting next to a source of flowing water.

And dont forget to take some seeds or nuts for the little visitors. They might just have a message for you also, in their songs.

Wishing you a blessed weekend.
